Skyview Early Learning Village

Curriculum enriched by on-site intergenerational programming

120 Skyview Ranch Drive NE, Calgary 403-731-9430

Skyview Early Learning Village offers a safe and nurturing environment for young learners, while enriching their physical, social, emotional, creative and intellectual development. We recognize the role that every member of our village plays in shaping the values and attitudes of our future global citizens.

Our programming recognizes that the early years are the most critical for a child’s growth and development.  Young children learn best with stable and supportive relationships and interactions.  The early years also build the foundations for thinking, language and behavioural attitudes.

Our Learning Environment

We foster strong, active, and energetic early childhood culture.  Our safe and organized learning spaces are designed to provide an enriching environment for young learners that include:

    • a rich array of engaging materials that support social interactions as well as build autonomy and initiative in children.
    • materials that are thoughtfully designed and selected to reflect the linguistic and cultural heritage of our children and their families.
    • promote literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills necessary for future school success.
    • equipment to support active development through physical play and interaction.

Infection prevention and control has always been a fundamental part of our child care program and we have enhanced and adapted our policies and procedures in response to COVID- 19.  Our goal is to diminish the risk and ensure the health and safety of everyone at our centre.  Our increased health & safety practices include, increased hand washing by children and educators, daily symptom check of all children and staff, exclusion of anyone with any symptoms, spending as much time outside as possible, smaller group sizes, stable groups of children and educators, and increased sterilization and cleaning practices.   For additional information, please refer to our Pandemic Handbook.

Our Curriculum

The Skyview Early Learning Village follows Flight – Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Curriculum Framework that guides the practice of educators working with children and their families. Children’s play is central to the curriculum framework. It is an active, exploratory, creative, expressive process, embedded in children’s everyday experiences and through which children participate in, learn about and actively make sense of the world.

Our curriculum is enriched by on-site intergenerational programming. This unique offering allows children to positively interact with the residents of Generations, Calgary. While benefiting both the young and the aged, it enhances family values, promotes appreciation for cultural and linguistic heritage, fosters empathy, brings joy, and nurtures a feeling of belonging in all ages under one roof.

Our Educators

Our trained educators recognize their role as co-constructors of the Flight curriculum in partnership with each child to ensure that they can explore and develop their own interests at their own pace.

Our educators value their position as co-learners, co-researchers, and co-imaginers of possibilities alongside and in relationship with children, families, and others in our dynamic inter-generational community.
